A Message from Steve

The next chapter in our company history will be heavily focused on organic growth, global expansion and continuing to deliver the best solutions to meet our customers' evolving needs. Most of you have already heard or sensed my relentless drive to build winning teams. Great teams are comprised of exceptionally talented and hard-working individuals who can deliver strong results and work well together for the overall success of the team.

As many of you know, I have spent a great deal of my first three months getting around to a number of our sites and meeting many of you, with a primary focus of figuring out the optimal skills, structure and leadership needs to get us on the path to growth and greatness. This path starts with a world class leadership team aligned around common goals.

Earlier this morning, we issued a press release announcing organizational and leadership changes that will be taking place. I am very excited to announce the following leadership appointments:
  • Eric Compton will join Hologic as Chief Operating Officer effective Monday, April 14. As COO, he will oversee the Women's Health and Diagnostics businesses in the U.S. as well as our Research and Development teams, Service, and Manufacturing Operations. Eric is an accomplished leader who brings nearly 30 years of outstanding operational experience to our organization which will help us focus on accelerating organic growth in each of our businesses. Prior to joining Hologic, he worked for Johnson & Johnson for almost 20 years, most recently serving as Worldwide President for the Ortho Clinical Diagnostics business. He will be based in Marlborough and report directly to me.

Ro Hastie and Roger Mills, who currently report to me, will report directly to Eric beginning April 14. Also reporting to Eric will be: Michael Bates, Jon Gingrich, Carter Houghton, Zhenxue Jing, John LaViola and Samir Parikh.

  • Claus Egstrand will also join Hologic on April 14 as Senior Vice President and General Manager, International. In this role, he will be responsible for all of our businesses outside the U.S. Claus brings a very strong franchise marketing background along with a proven track record of transforming and leading international teams that deliver results and achieve top and bottom line growth. Prior to joining Hologic, Claus led the Consumer Healthcare business for Merck & Co., Inc. in Europe. He will be based in London and report directly to me.

The international leaders who are currently reporting to David Harding, including Okkis Arissian, Keita Enshu, Hilja Ibert, Tim Lou, Holly Simmonds, Ruben Telmo, Paul Young and Anton Zerle, will report directly to Claus.

These changes will place our businesses under the leadership of two very strong leaders who will drive expanded R&D efforts and accelerate sales growth in every business across every geography.

Additionally, Glenn Muir has announced that he will retire from Hologic. He will remain with the company through November 30 to continue partnering with me and to help ensure a smooth transition to his successor. We will engage an executive search firm to assist us in identifying a new CFO who will help lead our next chapter of growth. Glenn has played a significant role in building the company and mentoring his team for the past 25 years. I want to thank him for his leadership and many contributions that helped the company grow into a leading global medical device company.

David Harding will assume a new role as SVP of Corporate Strategy. He will continue to report to me. As most of you know, David has led our international business for a number of years and last year was asked to step in to take on much broader responsibilities, including the Women's Health franchises. His depth of experience and global perspective across our businesses will serve him and the leadership team well in his new role.

Finally, several additional changes are also being announced.

To further streamline some of the Women's Health functions, National Accounts and Clinical Education and Customer Training will be reorganized. As such, Monte Tucker and Georgia Hitzke will leave Hologic effective Friday, March 14. In addition, we will realign the majority of the Corporate Marketing function to report directly into the individual business units in order to driver greater accountability for our marketing efforts. Some individuals will remain in Corporate functions. As part of this realignment, Pam Cumming will also leave Hologic effective Friday, March 14. I want to thank Monte, Georgia and Pam for their contributions to Hologic throughout the years and wish them well in their future endeavors.

I know it is a time of change for all of us, and change can be unsettling. My goal has been to make these changes expeditiously yet thoughtfully in order to enable us to fully focus on our business. We will provide more details to these teams very shortly once the new organizational structures are completed for National Accounts, Clinical Education and Customer Training, and Corporate Marketing.

As a final note, I want to thank each of you for your gracious and continuous support. I am excited about this next chapter and the bright future that lies ahead with the addition of Eric and Claus. I am confident they will win your support and trust very quickly. Best Regards,
